Cooking in a design school is very out the blue. Why are we cooking? How is it even reated to design? Why do we have to select only food items made out of just dough?

These are the questions which i am pretty sure every foundation year student has 😅

I picked garlic bread...omg my fav!!!! And not only me everyone elses favourite too😋

This is the first time Iam actually maling garlic bread out of a dough...a bit scared yet excited!














DAY 1 :
MY EXPERIMENT WITH GARLIC BREAD

1.) WHEAT FLOUR DOUGH


STEP 1: Add 2 cups wheat flour , 1tablespoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1tablespoon yeast/baking powder


STEP2: Add 1/2 cup of warm milk and mix all the ingredients together




STEP 3 Add butter and knead the dough.


2.) FLOUR DOUGH


STEP 1: Add 1 cup wheat flour , 1/2 tablespoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1tablespoon yeast/baking powder


STEP 2: After adding 3/4 cup of warm milk , add butter and knead the dough.


KEEP BOTH THE DOUGH'S FOR 1-1.5 HOURS



INGREDIENTS FOR THE BUTTER GARLIC


3 CHOPPED GARLIC CLOVES

SALT TO TASTE (OPTIONAL)

GAELIC GRANULES ( OPTIONAL)

1/2 CUP BUTTER

MIX ALL THE INGREDIENTS TOGETHER



BAKING PROCESS


1. Roll out the flour dough and cut into four or more pieces




2. Roll each piece



3. Apply the butter garlic filling and add cheese





4. Roll into different shapes



5. Greace with oil and Place in air frier for 10 minutes on 180 degrees



6. Change the filling, add corns and olives . Place for 7 minutes on 200 gedrees






burnt on 200 degrees !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


7.) Experimented and made garlic bread roll ;)

JUST DOUGH IT WITH DONUTS


DAY 2


A donuts is a type of fried dough food. the donut is a popular dessert in many countries and can be prepared in many shapes and sizes. It can be consumed in breakfast. snack or dessert.


I chose donut because it was the first food item which came in my mind after knowing that we have to choose dough based food item.

From chocolate to vanilla to will find a wide range of flavours.

















HOW TO PREPARE A DOUGH


Step 1 : ADD 1 TABLESPOON OF WHITE VINEGAR IN HALF CUP OF MILK FOR 5 MINUTES

now because i added vinegar in one cup milk i had to face some struggles later with dough.😬



Step 2: add 1.5 cups of flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, a pinch of salt , half teaspoon cinnemon powder and mix the ingredients.


Step 3: add milk, butter and 1 tablespoon yogurt



Because I'd put one cup milk , my dough became very sticky and liquidy ( STRUGGLE )



NEXT I DIVIDED THE DOUGH AND PUT SOME MORE FLOUR AND ADDED THE ABOVE INGREDIENTS AGAIN



Step 4: Roll out the dough and cut into various shapes.



STEP 6: Fry in oil



omgggg it looks like puri and vada !!!!!!!!!!



STEP 7: Decorate donuts using gems, melted dairy milk, crushed almonds, whipped cream, powdered sugar, cinnemon powder


For chocolate part i melted dairy milk with some olive oil

AND VOILA !!!



FIRST THOUGHTS AFTER EATING DONUTS:

1) balanced sugar

2) hard donut because of storing in freezer

3) whipped cream donuts are bit souggy

4) almonds going well with the chocolate


STRUGGLES

i had to remake the dough because of putting excess quantity of milk


ACHIEVEMENT

I divided my dough and added more flour and was able to correct my dough.



i made different shapes and different toppings to create variations in donuts.




DAY 3

On day 3 we had to make variations, play with ingredients and create a different food item.


so i had some left over dough so step 1 was o cut them in different shapes and this time i did not fry the donuts , i baked them !!!



They look and tasted like mathi !!!!!!!!!!


Step 2: Decorate the donuts with hersheys chocolate nutella, honey, gems and coffee

Baked donuts actually tasted alot better than fried donuts, the combination of chocolate and honey with mathi was really good !!!!


ACHIEVEMENTS

1) I created a new dish with actually tured out soooo good , looking wise and taste wise

2) The whole process took 30 minutes maximum.




DAY 4

NAME OF MY DESERT : Crunchy bites

On day4 I combined the fried donuts with baked donuts. This process was actually fun.



2 baked donuts

4 fried donuts


VARIATION 1: Whipped cream donuts.

I added 2 layers of whipped cream on donuts.

First layer consist of fried donut and whipped cream,

second layer consist of baked donut and whipped cream




VARIATION 2: Whipped cream and chocolate donuts.

Layer one chocolate , layer two whipped cream






The crunch went perfect and was balanced with the fried donuts

My parents really loved the idea of baked donuts.



ACHIEVEMENTS

1) I learnt how to make whipped cream, on day 3 i used it in a raw state 😬

2) Discovered new dish by experimenting.

FINAL DAY

For my final day dish i made 6 flavours of donuts

Toppings : gems, powdered sugar, almonds and cashwes , cinnemon, whipped cream, choco nutella , dairy milk.

Cooking in a design field is something very out of the blue, but i was fascinated by the topic JUST DOUGH IT !but then another question arises why only dough ?? why not batter or something else! I chose donuts and this activity taught me so much.

1) Patience: At the beginning of the activity i completely ruined my dough , i mixed alot milk with the flour which resulted into a batter. It look alot of time and patience to convert it into a dough !!!

2) Got to know that i can make difficult dishes too!!!!! i swear making donuts was not at all easy especially the base part, 

3) corrected my mistakes in second attemp, sometimes giving things a second chance is a good thought!

4) Made two dishes out of one , after baking a donut it turned out to be a mathi which actually surprised me and it tastes sooo good with chocolate toppings

5) I also learnt to be original , always copying won't help. Sometimes we gotta use our brain and create something different and unique

6) Each element has its own role to play we can't always replace it with other element 

7) The plating part was very interesting, i did't think much just sprinkled some chopped almonds and cinnemon powder on the plate and it was all set to go !!!
