SELECTION OF THE OBJECT

As a makeup junkie i chose the cosmetic category. I love blushes because it gives natural freshness and rosy colour which looks gorgeous even with no makeup on.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

Blush is a quiet, unassuming miracle worker when it comes to cosmetics. Seriously! That's because blush has the ability and the power to brighten up your entire face. Blush will add a pop of color to the middle of your face and is a fresh, youthful, instant brightener. Blush is insanely easy to use, too.

You can use a cream blush as a lipstick or lip stain or as a wash of color or highlighter on your eyelids. You can also build and blend a powder blush on lids like an eyeshadow.

VARIATION OF THE OBJECT

1. ) fenty cream blush which has glossy and glittery application (love this one because it gives natural gloss xd)

2. ) maybelline matte blush with rosy nude application

3.) colour bar dark rosy blush

4.)Rosy matte colour with shimmers

5.) Little in brown tone with shimmers

DAY 2

Today's briefing was about making timeline about our product. While researching about history of blush I got to know that makeup was initially started in Egypt. I also got to know why makeup was important in egypt ?

Makeup. Both men and women in ancient Egypt wore makeup. Some researchers think that a reason that everyone wore makeup in ancient Egypt was that they thought it helped protect them from the gods Ra and Horus. Some of the minerals used to make this eye makeup may have helped prevent common eye infections.Ancient Egyptians wore lipstick to emphasize their social status rather than gender. This was also common in the Roman era, men painted their lips to show their social rank.

I also got to know few fun facts about makeup

  1. Each year, Americans spend more money on beauty than on education.

  2. Whale vomit and whale poo are ingredients of fancy perfumes because it ensures that other fragrances last longer. Its price is $200 per gram.

3.The average American woman spends over $300,000 in cosmetics during her lifetime.

4.The first lipstick appeared in ancient Mesopotamia approximately 4,000 years ago when women decorated their lips with the dust that was made of precious gems.

2A

Design as socio-cultural phenomenon

Design seems to be very short and understandable term but actually it’s a very vast term that keeps on changing from person to person. Not only term or the word, but actually design is different for one person to another. Social and cultural factors both played vital role in evolution of the design of anything that we see. Everything that we see nowadays has its evolution due to several factors or phenomena that takes place. Socio-cultural phenomenon are created by society that keeps on changing from time to time as per needs required. Design and components used in blush keeps on evolving mainly due to socio-cultural phenomena. As per example of my object, blush;

Not only of this object ,everything that we use in our day to day life from socks to makeup brush has been evolved it’s design , which led to believe that design changes as socio-cultural phenomenon. Socio cultural phenomena is also a changing behaviour, attitude pattern, it describes that how people changed from period of time , their needs changes and obviously as per needs the demand of object changes too.

2B.

WHAT DOES THE EVOLUTION OF OUR OBJECT TELL US ABOUT THE EVOLUTION OF HUMAN KIND?

After doing all the research work about blush , I noticed how each change was a result of human evolution. Humans have undoubtedly been developing new designs to ease their life. With advancement of technology and knowledge we have so many kinds of blushes from powdered to liquid each variety is available with different coloured shades.

After searching the history of object i got to know how basic (from plants) form of blush was used but today it is very complex.

It's a status symbol. Taking example of Egypt in 5th century- Pale skin was considered to be a symbol of high class. People started using egg whites to achieve the palest complexion possible to distinguish themselves from the poor. This led an immense decline in usage of blush. Today, specific high-end products when owned by a person, earn him the status of 'rich'.

Concluding, I learnt so much about history and evolution of my object and honestly I did not know I was learning about the evolution about humanity simultaneously with the tasks until I was asked to reflect upon it and human kind has evolved a lot, there are some great advancements in technology, but in some aspects it still carries the same learning and practices which it did centuries ago.

Reflective Writings

REFLECTION 3:

Form of an object drive by the functional and emotional needs of its user.

The functionality of an object is a important factor for every user.Any object that becomes famous always has one or another feature that satisfies the user needs that is it has either functional or emotional importance. The main motive of any product is to ensure user convenience good and positive experience. The form of the product should correspond with its purpose.

Let's take an example from my research the blush is made circular so that it can fit the in human hand and can be handled easily while using, for instance if the shape is hexagonal or triangular it won't be handled easily as compared to round blush. The size of the blush is user friendly.

secondly the ingredients used in previous times were considered toxic for human skin, it could lead to skin allergies, but modern day blushes comes with non-toxic components which fulfil the functional need of the customer . Emotional needs are hard to be fulfilled it depends on one's choice or personal likes and dislikes, however by associating your product with positivity , true campaigning and advertising, launching different varieties of products , similarly providing option to personalise the products, can lead the customer to associate the product with positivity and reliability.

REFLECTION 4:

Factors that tell about aesthetics of an Object

The aesthetics of an object is how we see, touch.Aesthetics of an object play a major role while purchasing any product. A customer engages all this senses while purchasing a product whether it's smell, taste ,sight, touch etc.

Certain factors like color, material, packaging etc which tells about aesthetics of object.

In Essence of colour we have studied how colour plays an important role for brands in selling their products. Colours have psychological impact on us .Though there are multiple factors that influence the aesthetic of a product.

LOOKS :It includes the outlook, creativeness, packaging, colours of a product. Everything depends how beautiful the product is. Specially in today's instagrammy world people prefers cute and creative things whether it's a cafe or a food item.

MATERIAL: Material aesthetics are especially important for physical products.Texture, Shape, Weight, Comfort, Temperature, Vibration and Sharpness etc. More good material, more good quality hence more demand and more money.

There are many more factors that inform the aesthetics of an object.

TASK 10 - REALISATION 3

REFLECTING ON THE PROCESS

PART 2

Timeline

BENIFITS

It is the most important activity , It helped to increase my knowledge about blush.

I got to know the history of blush, how blush eventually started , its birth place , year , ingredients etc. I found so many interesting things about blush.

Through timeline i learn old and new phases of blush, learn how technology evolves . Though this task i realised that evolution of an object led to evolution of humans too.

RECOMMENDATIONS

While researching about the history of blush don not just rely on google, youtube has some amazing content as well.

Highlighting the facts and important events. Using reliable sources for finding out the information. Avoid adding personal views and give credits.

User interaction

BENIFITS

Interacting with user gave me true insights and helped me to generalise it. Two people had different opinions and point of view about same object.Helped me to understand the object user association better. It gives me understanding about need and demands of users.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Don't judge the speaker be a good listener, don not poke your view points in between.

Choose users from different demographics.Keep noting down the points while having conversations. Stay objective.

Observational drawing

BENIFITS

It helped to look the object differently, through this task i got to see and capture the minor details. Helped in understanding the object better. Through observational drawing i learnt to focus on different angles ,different views and learn to capture details. Observational drawings helped me to improve my both drawing and isometric drawing skills.Helped to improvise drawing skills.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Observe the object before drawing. Try making 3d objects instead of 2d objects.

Do not trace the object. Try to capture as much detail as possible.

Add as much details as you can.
